The short version

Who we are

Puzzle Kettle makes the Daily Mystery game on this site. Questions or requests: hello@puzzlekettle.com.

What stays on your device

The game saves a few things in your browser’s local storage so it can remember you between visits: your progress on a case (time, hints used, notebook marks, crossed-out clues, your answer), your stats (played, solved, streak), the dates of your first and last visit, and whether you have seen the tutorial. This never leaves your device, except as the anonymous numbers listed below.

To play offline, the game also keeps a copy of its own files and the next few cases. These copies hold nothing about you.

To erase everything, clear this site’s data in your browser settings.

What we count

We use two analytics services. Neither uses cookies. If you block them, the game works the same.

The game moves we count, with every value they can carry:

Only numbers, yes/no and time ranges can be sent. Names from the case, what you typed, and your email address never are. There is no ID of ours that follows you.

Email (only if you sign up)

If you sign up for the daily case by email, your address goes straight to Buttondown, the service that sends our emails. You first get a confirmation email, and nothing else is sent until you confirm. Every email has a link to unsubscribe at once. We use your address only to send the daily case and never sell or share it. We don’t track whether you open our emails or click links in them. Buttondown privacy policy.

We email you because you asked us to. You can take that back at any time by unsubscribing. We keep your address while you are subscribed, and delete it if you ask us to.

The email list is for people aged 16 or over. If a child signed up, write to us and we will delete the address.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the pages and to protect the site from attacks.

Where your data goes

Cloudflare, Umami and Buttondown run their services in other countries, including the United States, so the little data above may be handled outside the country you live in. Each of them protects it under its own privacy policy.

Links to other sites

Links to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Amazon take you to those sites, and their own privacy policies apply there.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you (in practice: your email address, if you signed up), ask us to correct or delete it, or unsubscribe at any time. Write to the address above. You can also complain to your data protection authority: in Thailand, the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC); in the EU or UK, the authority where you live.

If we change this page, we will change the date at the top.
